Instead of getting my hands in my art box I had a quiet evening with my handsome devil on the patio with pizza and a book. "A relaxed mind is a creative mind" so said my Yogi Tea one day. I've actually had quite a few quiet days this week and it's been rather nice.
I've been thinking lately what the best ways are to gather and create more inspiration and creativity in your life I think it's important that everybody knows when and how they have the most creative mind.
Here is what I found helps me most in my search of creativity or inspiration.
Fresh Air and exploring
Getting out with the trees and playing on the mountains and exploring new land always gives me a great boost of creativity! Your mind needs fresh air.

Mornings
Yes, I'm a morning bird and my
mind works so much better when it's fresh.
When I'm working on a big project I will most likely put it away for an evening and wake up early with some coffee to finish it the next morning. There is a time of day when your mind is most active and awake to the world, find that!!
Write down all of my thoughts-- with old fashioned pen and paper.
If I have a great idea in mind I always have to jot it down with pen on paper or else I will loose it very quickly because my mind is always running.
Just play
When I feel crafty and artsy but don't know what I want to do I'll just pull out my kit and just start messing with my materials. I eventually lead to something and along the way I get an "ah-ha! moment" for my next project.
Gallery walks and interpreting artwork
One of the most important classes I took in college was Photo critique where the main point was to look at art and learn how to really describe and understand how to make interpretations of artwork. When I'm going though galleries I gather so many ideas and stories in my head that really stick with me. Gathering inspiration from someone else is always important.
Take Risks
When I have a project in mind...a lot of times it doesn't work out! Nobody is perfect and accomplished something on the first try. You'll learn from your mistakes and gather new ideas.
What I would like to bring into my life more to boost creativity
Art Journaling
When I was in college I had a notebook where I would keep my favorite images and write down my thoughts about them and how I would want to use the key elements in the future.
Lately I have been looking into the concept of art journaling. Keeping the little things you find interesting, slathering glue on them, and sticking them in a journal with a little bit of extra embellishments and glitter of course.
Meditation
I never thought I would say this. I always said that meditation just wasn't for me because I can't keep my mind still. I recently read The Secret where it talks about meditation and creativity at one point and it really made me think about taking a few minutes a day to give my mind some peace. Here's a really great article about meditation to boost creativity.
Zentangle
One thing I'm not very great at is drawing so I've been very intrigued with Zentangle and the concept behind it. It's so beautiful and so great for your mind! It not only increases creativity and mindfulness but also decreases stress. How can you beat it?! I want to learn so please teach me.
