"I could do that"

When I was 16 I remember staring at Pablo Picasso's first Dove of Peace (1940) in an art gallery located in La Jolla California with my Step Dad and saying "I could do that."
He looked at me and asked "Oh yeah?"
"Yeah...It's just a bunch of lines."

5 years later I have Dove of Peace tattooed on my body.

What I didn't understand five years ago is meaning and simplicity and that some of the most simple designs are artwork in life can have a huge impact. Art goes past then what just hits your eye...it should really seep into your mind and make you think and feel something.

What makes this the Dove so special to me?

Picasso's painting Guernica (1936) was one of the greatest paintings of anti-war. It was also extremely detailed and was quite graphic in it's own abstract way. The Dove of Peace was supposed to be simple image that represented peace. I almost get a breath of fresh air looking at the Dove of Peace after analyzing Guernica. I believe this is what Picasso was hoping his viewers would feel from this piece.

Today I found a fantastic video about appreciating art and thinking of those simple works of art in a more positive way and getting into the mind of the artist.

Enjoy your days!
