*SOME PHOTOGRAPHS MAY BE DISTURBING TO SOME*
This weekend is Halloween and I will be in Mexico during that time (I fly out TONIGHT!) but I wanted to sneak in a blog about some amazing haunting works of art that really inspire me during this time of year! While I am in Mexico I will also be there for Dia de los Muertos which is such a beautiful and colorful time of celebration and I am so excited to share that with all of you!
The first artist that comes to mind on Halloween is a photographer I learned about while I was in college in my photo history classes. Beware- his work is kind of gruesome...actually really gruesome.
JOEL-PETER WATKINS
Oddly enough- I actually LOVE his work- it's so beautiful in a disturbing way and you cannot help but to just observe and stare.
What is most beautiful about some of his photographs is they are very inspired from the Renaissance and Baroque paintings but used with...yes, body parts.
" In nearly all of his works, these moral issues are acted out by social outcasts, pariahs, and human oddities. Witkin also frequently uses dead bodies or body parts in the creation of his work all of which contribute to the spiritual and ephemeral quality of his imagery"
"Feast of the Fools" 1990
"The Kiss, New Mexico" 1982

I believe that charcoals create the greatest works of spooky art work!
Hernan Marin, based in Colombia, is an artist that works with charcoal and creates beautiful and eerie pieces of work. Here you can find a great article about him on bleaq.com!
Now to end my spooky Halloween post...something a little more enlightening and colorful, DISNEY of course. Anybody who knows me know I have a true love for Disney and villains are always fun on Halloween! Arnaud de Vallois illustrates my favorite villains in the best way
Have a Happy, Safe, and COLORFUL Halloween!
xoxo.
